Call for Nominations for Board of Directors

The United Nations Association in Canada (UNA-Canada) Edmonton Branch is seeking members interested in serving on the Board of Directors for the 2015-16 term. The Board of Directors convene regularly to govern the affairs of the Branch and facilitate work to further the mandate of the Branch. If you would like to be considered for a position on the Board, please contact Vivian Giang at [email protected] by Monday, February 2, 2015.

Eligibility
To be eligible to hold a position on the Board, candidates need to be a member of UNA-Canada in good standing for 2015 (i.e. – membership has been paid for the current year) and are required to submit a brief description of why they would like to run for a specific position and what skills they would bring to the Board and the Branch. Paid membership to UNA-Canada is by donation, and the amount is at your discretion (please see edmonton.unac.org/join-volunteer for more information). All interested candidates are also required to come to the Branch’s Annual General Meeting on February 12, 2015, at MacEwan University to formally present their candidacy and stand for election by members present at the meeting.

Positions and Responsibilities
The following positions on the Board of Directors are available for the 2015-16 term.

President
• Provide leadership through chairing Branch meetings and Board meetings
• Represent the Branch at outside meetings and functions
• Contact speakers and setting schedules for public lectures/events
• Responsible for maintaining Branch records including membership listing, bylaws, meeting minutes, etc.
• Liaise between Branch and SUNIA for selection of SUNIA Scholarship recipient
• Represent the Branch at the National UNA-Canada AGM and liaise with National Office
• Prepare for Board elections at AGM through recruiting candidates via the Board members’ networks
• Responsible for liaising with National Office-appointed Project Officers to promote Branch through National’s educational programs
• Answer and redirect inquiries sent to the Branch via e-mail
• Organize Board training and/or appreciation events
• Actively seek new members, speakers and/or partners for Branch

1st Vice President
• Chair meetings and/or represent the Branch at outside meetings and functions in the President’s absence
• Responsible for Educational Outreach aspects of the Branch including but not limited to WKOW and website blog posts regarding UN issues (e.g. International Year of…, special events/commemorative dates, etc.)
• Responsible for recruiting of WKOW Coordinators and working in coordination with Coordinators to recruit volunteers and maintain program services
• Assist President in preparing for Board elections at AGM
• Actively seek new members, speakers and/or partners for Branch

2nd Vice President
• Chair meetings and/or represent the Branch at outside meetings and functions in the President’s absence
• Assist President in finding and scheduling speakers for public lectures/events
• Assist President in organizing Board training and/or appreciation events
• Assist President in preparing for Board elections at AGM
• Actively seek new members, speakers and/or partners for Branch

Secretary
• Provide Branch meeting minutes in a timely manner to the Board and to National Office prior to National UNA-Canada AGM
• Assist President in maintaining Branch records including membership listing, bylaws, meeting minutes, Branch newsletter sign up sheets, etc.
• Update Branch newsletter list with new subscribers
• Actively seek new members, speakers and/or partners for Branch

Treasurer
• Provide an annual financial statement for approval at AGM
• Develop annual budget for presentation at AGM
• Maintain Branch bank account and provides monthly financial statements
• Collect and deposit revenues and monitor Branch spending
• Actively seek new members, speakers and/or partners for Branch

Youth Representative
• Actively seek opportunities to engage high school and university students as well as past SUNIA participants to attend Branch meetings and/or volunteer with the Branch
• Actively seek new members, speakers and/or partners for Branch

Information Officer
• Work with Board to update the Branch’s online presence including but not limited to the Branch’s website, Facebook and Twitter accounts (updates include: event postings, educational articles, UN- or UNAC-related articles, Branch news, etc.)
• Assist President in compiling e-newsletter to Branch members
• Coordinate Branch publicity via mainstream media and social media, including developing press releases and media kits if necessary
• Actively seek new members, speakers and/or partners for Branch
